Before asking for a quote for a Towbar to fit your vehicle find out which type of towbar, towball and towbar wiring will best suit your needs.
Bascically, there are three types of towbar and two types of towbar wiring in the UK and understanding what their pros and cons are could save you a lot of time and MONEY! But I just want the cheapest I hear some of you cry, well that is certainly one way to choose but when it won’t let you fit the bike carrier you have or your insuarance company says your claim is denied because the cars built in towing related safety functions were bypassed, then the towbar bought may no longer be the cheapest
Three Types Of Towbar

Key Locking Vertical Detachable
- FIxed Flange – The most versatile choice to towbar. Can be used, when fitted with the correct towball type to tow anything
- Fixed Swan Neck – The most affordable option as the towball and wiring socket mounting plate is included, but it cannot be used with bolt on cycle carriers or plant trailers. The ball often protrudes more increading the trip hazard. This type of towbar is not often available for vans in the UK
- Detachable – Usually a Swan Neck but some flange versions are available. Swan Necks are horizontal but most are vertical detachable which gives an invisible installation. The towball can be removed to prevent the trip hazard. Quality, key locking detachables will be the most expensive towbar option.
